Qualcomm suddenly introduced the Snapdragon 855 Plus mobile processor, an improved version of the Snapdragon 855 chip, which is used in many of this year’s flagship smartphones.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ is a inverter version, upgrade a little bit claiming a performance increase up to 2.96 Ghz (4% amplitude), while the GPU frequency has increased from 585 Mhz to 672 Mhz, with a range of 15% if you look at it, it is actually an overclocked version of the 855. Other specifications remain the same, or 7nm process manufacturing, built-in baseband or Snapdragon X24, can be connected to the Snapdragon X50 %g baseband. Qualcomm said that mobile terminals base on the Snapdragon 855+ will be commercially available in the second half of this year.
Recall the Snapdragon 855 configuration: these are the eight Kryo 485 cores with a clock frequency of 1.80 GHz to 2.84 GHz and the graphics accelerator Adreno 640 with a frequency of 585 MHz. Supports work with RAM LPDDR4X. Production standards – 7 nanometers.
The Snapdragon 855 Plus solution, as noted, is optimized for gaming smartphones and virtual reality devices. The chip differs from the progenitor by increased frequencies.
So, the frequency of computational cores now reaches 2.96 GHz. On single-threaded tasks, this provides a performance gain of approximately 4.2%.
As for the graphics subsystem, its frequency is raised to 672 MHz. It is a question of increasing the speed by about 15%.
Other characteristics remain unchanged. This, in particular, supports RAM LPDDR4X-2133 and an integrated cellular modem Snapdragon X24 LTE (Category 20).
The first devices on the Snapdragon 855 Plus platform will be released in the coming weeks.
