Apple released the first public beta of macOS 10.15 Catalina . Everyone can install the update – you just need to register in the beta program of Apple.
Today, June 24, Apple released the first public beta versions of iOS 13, iPadOS and macOS 10.15 Catalina. During the WWDC 2019 conference, it was reported that public beta would be released only in July, but apparently, the developers managed to make the firmware stable enough for most users right now. However, this does not mean that the updates are fully functional. Therefore, it is not recommended to install them on the main devices, as there may be problems with performance, autonomy, and incompatibility of some applications.
iOS 13 has quite a few innovations, among them: a dark theme, a keyboard with swipe support, an updated Safari browser with a download manager, as well as a new standard photo and video editor. iPadOS has become an offshoot of the mobile operating system. This version received new functions for working with files, PencilKit and a new desktop with widgets. macOS 10.15 Catalina has lost iTunes, instead of a digital player, there are three separate applications: Music, Podcasts and Apple TV. Particularly interesting was the function Sidecar, thanks to which the iPad can now be used as an external monitor for Mac computers.

How to install the beta version of macOS 10.15 Catalina
Do not forget to install a beta version of macOS Catalina to backup your system via Time Machine. If you don’t have one, returning to macOS Mojave will not be possible – especially with a T2-based Mac.
Now that the backup has been created, you can proceed with the installation:
- Go to Apple’s beta testing program, click Sign Up and fill in the Apple ID account used on your Mac;
- Now click on the item “Register your devices” and confirm the download utility Apple Beta Software. Open it;
- Go to “Settings” → “Software Updates” and click “Update Now”, the download of the beta version of macOS Catalina will begin.
*Before installing the update, be sure to back up your system so that if necessary you can roll back to older version and restore all data.
